After winning the project and starting to make all initial project documents, Project Managers make a brainstorming workshop for reproducing ideas and will realize that some results might be provided faster than others. Analyse and carry out this solution, and let's call it "Quick wins"; will help the project move forward, in addition to that, it will demonstrate seriousness to the customer and how the project manager is able to implement change within the organization.
It’s crucial for project managers to understand that Quick wins should be easy, fast, cost-effective to implement, and can be easily reversed. We can consider quick wins as visible change with an immediate impact. Here is a good example of tangible quick wins I experienced. A PMO Implementation project manager worked remotely with a start-up that operates in the blockchain sector. After many workshops with the CEO and department heads to identify specifications and collect requirements, the project manager prepared all initial documents such as project charter and roadmaps. In addition to that, he re-drafts and confirms the organization’s vision, prepares a new strategic plan and strategy map (balanced scorecard). This made all stakeholders impressed by this draft and they considered it as a quick win.
Since many stakeholders insist on delivering quick wins, the project manager often falls into the trap of focusing on a quick result at the expense of the strategic objectives of the project. In order to avoid falling into this trap, it is better to adopt a hybrid approach to make quick wins in addition to achieving strategic goals. This is to take advantage of the benefits of quick wins that were mentioned above, while at the same time focusing on strategic goals.
As a Project manager, helping customers and key stakeholders obtain quick wins builds confidence and It prepares you for long-term achievement.
